CANDY GALLANT PEI, CANADA CREATIVE CREATURES |
Candy attended Holland College School of Visual Arts in Prince Edward Island from 1979-1981. While there, she won four 'People's Choice' awards and a juried show award. Several exhibits in the Maritimes have also been held over the years. Not one for the traditional, Candy makes Gargoyle-like creatures and all sorts of other beasts (real and fantasy) by throwing shapes on the pottery wheel then attaching them together with hand built additions finishing them. She is very much influenced by nature and just about anything fanciful, fun or gothic. Candy enjoys experimenting using different mediums together for effect. She says pottery must be her calling since she only feels fulfilled when working with clay although all types of ethnic crafts and needlework fill her non-clay moments. Sometimes origami, wheat weaving or even sewing finds its way into her pieces. Candy's favourite part of the whole endeavour is the smile people have on their faces when viewing her creations.
